Evvie’s Going Big: Bigger Room at Least

I’m a planner. I plan everything. I plan my birthday. I plan C.D.’s birthday. I plan Evvie’s birthday. I plan my family get-togethers, big or small. I plan gifts for folks months in advance. I (selfishly) send out my Christmas Wish List before my own birthday in October.

So naturally… with nesting on my mind… I’m planning Evvie’s big girl room.

Evvie’s current room, the nursery, is roughly a 10’x10′ space. It’s a small room, but it’s perfectly sized for an infant who isn’t in her room much. Not only does Evvie need to vacate said room to accommodate her sister’s belongings, but she is also getting to the age where she wants to play in her room before settling down for sleep. Plus, the kid has LOTS OF STUFF. Our playroom/office is stuffed to the brim so it would be lovely to be able to re-allocate some items upstairs.

Our local Pottery Barn Outlet recently had a warehouse clearance sale that marked already low prices down even further. For Mother’s Day, C.D., Ev and I visited the store to pick out items to kick-start the guest room revamp.

First things first: color scheme. I’m not much of a “theme” person if we’re talking about style — her room was never fashioned after “animals” or “fairytale.” Really, I like to pick base colors and style around them so that I’m not limited to a certain look. I can search for any piece of decor that I find to be fun, that matches and just run with it.

Next, what can we refinish that we already have? Evvie received several beautiful, custom name wall art frames for her birth that still fit the theme (coral and navy). We’ll transition these over to her new room.

Already in the guest room is a dresser with six, large drawers. This was previously C.D.’s when he grew up, and fortunately, the style was very simple, making it easy to customize for Evvie.

We’ll paint the dresser either an antique gray or a chalkboard pink to make it a stand-out piece in the room.

I plan (see… always planning) to also purchase decorative, fun knobs to complete the character. Items I’m loving for great prices at Hobby Lobby have some distress to them, some texture and some pattern to contrast the matte of the chalkboard paint.

As with any new room, unfortunately, you do often have to purchase some new pieces of furniture. Here’s what I’m eying to complete her vibrant little space!

So we’re on our way! What are your thoughts? What would you add that I haven’t thought of?

We, of course, still need to move out all of the current guest room furniture, paint the room a neutral color (you can see the mustard brown currently hanging out on the walls) and get going on painting the dresser.

Nonetheless, plans are underway and I couldn’t be more excited for Evvie to be able to spend more time in her special place!

XOXO,

K+E
