Glam Makeup Gifts for the Holidays

I’m a makeup addict.

Perhaps it started with my Mom and her thousands of shades of lipsticks. Or maybe it was the bags of designer label makeup samples and extras my Aunt would gift my sister and I that did me in. I’m not afraid to shell out for makeup and that’s because it’s an area where it does show if you’ve spent vs. saved.

I’ve always loved make-up and the versatility it offers women. Let me say that I love a barefaced look as well, but, unfortunately, my skin isn’t as nice to me as it is to other ladies.

So with my obsession, I’ve had many years to purchase and sample some of the best makeup options out there. I’ve played around with drugstore makeup and label/designer makeup. Below is a list of my absolute FAVORITE necessities that you might want to toss on your last minute Christmas list.

Ulta ($54) | Sephora ($54)

This palette is gorgeous. You have your champagne hues, into your traditional “smoky” colors, like grays, purples, and browns. This palette offers you the ability to take a daytime look and quickly transform it into a saucy, night-out look. I finally got my hands on one and I see it quickly becoming an every day staple.

bareMinerals “BAREPRO” Powder Foundation

Ulta ($30)

I’ve gone through several of bareMinerals’ lines of foundation, and so far I like this one the best. It’s a pressed powder, but easily buffs off into a fine powder that doesn’t leave your face looking “cakey.” If you’re not TOO active it will last through most of the day, unlike other powders. But if you do find it’s wearing off, it’s easy to reapply without looking overdone.

Ulta ($32) | Sephora ($32)

This shimmering powder is pressed but easily brushes off into a loose, golden powder. Use it on your cheekbones as a highlighter or dust it on your shoulders/collarbone for a shimmery, sunny look.

Benefit “Boi-ing” Concealer

Sephora ($20)

As previously mentioned, my poor skin is RARELY clear. That means I’ve really tried and tested concealers. Whether it’s melasma marks from pregnancy or adult acne (JOY!), I need my concealer to work. I like Benefit’s Boi-ing because it has good coverage that stays on. I use it under my eyes to hide rough nights spent awake with the baby and on red spots that seem to creep up day after day.

Almay “Clear Complexion” Concealer

Target ($5)

If your complexion is kinder to you than mine is but you still want a concealer to even out your skin tone, I love Almay Clear Complexion. It’s thinner than some of the creamy options so you can build/layer it as needed. Plus, it’s affordable!

Kat Von D “Ink Liner”

Sephora ($20)

Leave it to a tattoo artist to create a flipping awesome liquid liner. The felt tip makes it easy to slide on and this liner comes in a nice range of colors — from adventurously fun to sophisticated and classic.

NYX “Kohl Kajal” Eyeliner

Target ($6)

You certainly CAN dish out for designer eyeliner pencils, but NYX’s Kohl liner is a great option that won’t break the bank.

Clinique “High Impact” Mascara

Sephora ($17.50)

I have fairly sensitive, allergen-prone eyes and, unfortunately, drugstore options were leaving my eyes red, irritated and itchy. I did some research and lots of allergy-ridden folks recommended Clinique’s High Impact line of mascaras. I’ve purchased the mascara (in black) for several years now and have had nothing but great things to say. It adds length and volume without looking fake or clumpy.

BUXOM “Full-On Lipstick”

Ulta ($20)

This lip pencil is great. It has a bit of a tingle after application to plump the lips and the color is rich. It has a slight sparkle in it that gives you a hint of shimmer. I love the pencil for making sure I stay in the lines when I’m rushing to throw on lipstick after lunch or before a meeting.

CHANEL “Levres Scintillantes Glossimer”

Neiman Marcus ($30)

My dear friend and former boss, Lisa, gifted this lipgloss to me and I absolutely LOVE its texture and super subtle color. I have shade 03, but the link above is fairly close to the color. It really only adds a very fair pink tint to the lip and the gloss isn’t sticky. It’s great for layering over a matte lipstick.

Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Tubes (On-the-Go Size)

Target ($6)

Aquaphor? Yes, friends, this is a miracle worker on chapped skin, both lips AND hands. I always carry a to-go-sized tube in my purse. You never know when you’ll be in need of a chapstick fix.
